What jobs will be available to me with a CPA certification and a master’s in finance?

I have an accounting degree, am working on the CPA exam, and will complete my MS in Finance from a reputable school by next summer. I am looking for some insight as to what entry-level jobs might be in accounting, finance, consulting, etc with high growth potential, and that would want to utilize both finance and accounting knowledge. Thank you!

It depends on what you’re interested in. did you do any internships through out your degree? you could apply to graduate roles in accounting and consulting firms or investment banks. Finance is quite broad so there are more than a few options. see this site for more guidance.

How do you become a CPA in Texas?

I am currently a Junior at the University of Houston, i have a declared major of Accounting and was wondering if there were any accountants out there? I want to become a CPA but i don’t feel like doing the whole grad school thing. I know in texas to become a CPA you must have at least 150 credit hours, 16 being accounting intense. But my degree is only 120 hours. Any suggestions?

Take additional courses for 30 hours./

What does it mean to sit in for a CPA exam?

I am currently a senior in college and am planning on taking the CPA exam in the near future. I am having trouble understanding what the phrase "sit in for the CPA exam" mean. Could someone tell me what it means?

You are going to take the Certified Public Accountant exam.
I never understood why they used that wording.

Is it possible to become a CPA with an Associates Degree in accounting?

I live in California and am not far from getting an Associates in Accounting but does it come with opportunities? Can I just start off small and get experience and eventually take the CPA exam in a few years? I would love to continue my education but work and school are kickin’ my butt, I’m holding a high GPA but it hasn’t been easy. Yes I know, nobody said it was going to be.

In California, the minimum you need to sit for the CPA examination is a Bachelor’s degree.

To be honest, the first two years of accounting courses will be nothing compared to your next two years. You have already built a nice foundation to continue your education but you will need to continue on if you plan to obtain your CPA.

How long does it take an engineer to become CPA?

How long does it take an engineer to become CPA?
Please help me answer this question!!!!! I would appreciate it.
Right now, I am freshman in college. I am planning to complete an electrical engineering.
I just wonder if after I finish engineering degree, how long does it take to become a CPA ( Certified public accountant)?
Thank you.

As one with an accounting degree who passed the CPA exam, WHY? Why an electrical degree to go into accounting? FYI the CPA exam will be very difficult to pass without taking accounting classes. Most people also take review and refresher courses to bone up for the exam. My book of questions was 3 inches thick. The Answer book was another 3 inches thick. Then I had to buy a third book to pass the last portion of the exam; so good luck, if this is really your goal.

You don’t need to be a CPA to understand writing estimates and bidding on jobs, you know.

Can I get a CPA license in Ca., if I go to an accredited business school instead of a traditional college?

I’m going back to school after being downsized. I’m 50yrs old so time is a concern. I am planning to get an accounting degree. If I go to a business school will I qualify to take the CPA test in California?

In most states, you need a 4 year degree in order to get your cpa. If your business school does not grant a bachelors degree then you may not be eligible to take the cpa test.
Here is info:

Pathway 1

Designed for individuals who will practice only in California and requires:

* A bachelor’s degree;
* 24 semester units in accounting-related subjects;
* 24 semester units in business-related subjects (accounting courses beyond the 24 required units may apply toward the business units);
* Passing the Uniform CPA Exam;
* Two years of general accounting experience supervised by a CPA with an active license; and
* Passing an ethics course.

If you do not want to go the entire way, I would choose a community college because their credits transfer to 4 year schools. Be very careful with the trade schools because they cost alot and make promises that you will no be able to keep but you will be stuck with the bill.

What does a CPA do and how does it differ from what other accounting jobs do?

Like, do you have to be a CPA to find a good job in accounting? If I just want to work for a company and make $40-$60k a year, would I need to be a CPA? Or CPA something different?
lol Thanks. I don’t know if I want to be a CPA, but I think I’ll take the exam anyway, as well. Haha!

You only need to be a CPA if you want to independently (without influence from the client company) examine (audit) the books and accounting methods of public companies and report to shareholders and the general public that the company is keeping books in accordance with the rules (GAAP).

Or you could sit around and answer questions on Y!A for free (lol).

How can I easily earn 1 credit hour for the CPA education requirement?

I am ready to sit for the CPA, but have calculated that I will only have 23 credit hours in accounting. I was wonering where I can take a 1 credit hour class over this summer or anytime online to complete the last credit hour required.

I have never heard of a 1 credit accounting class at ANY college that is certified. Make sure that you double check that any online program you use is certified or you just wasted your time and money.

Is a CPA designation really required in private/corporate accounting?

I know the CPA license is essential for an accountant to move up the ladder in public accounting firms. But I also noticed that a lot of companies’ job postings for "senior accountant" and "accounting manager" positions say that a CPA is required, or is desired. Is it because you need to be a CPA to have a management accounting position in private accounting? Or are these companies simply looking for well-qualified candidates for the position?

It is not really required but it is a sign of attaining a certain skill level. It would be similar to having a college degree. Somehow people that hire accountants are impressed with people that have passed the CPA test and served their public accounting apprenticeship.

Can someone who is not licensed in a particular state call himself a CPA?

The person I am referring to majored in Economics in college and took 24 credit hours in Accounting from a college where he didn’t receive a degree. Has not been licensed as a CPA in any state.

No, and you can report that person to the state CPA Board.

An accountant does NOT equal a CPA.
An accountant does NOT equal a tax specialist
An EA IS a tax specialist, but not necessarily a CPA.
