What is the difference between a private investigator and a cpa?

What is the difference between a private investigator and a cpa? Why would someone use 1 instead of another for investigating a fraud case?

a CPA is a certified public accountant.
I guess you would use a CPA to follow a money/accounting trail if there was some kind of crime committed involving finances

In most US states, private investigators are licensed, and they investigate all sorts of issues. They may have expertise in financial matters, but may not. A CPA is a licensed financial expert, and may or may not do forensic work.
